Poultry Ordering Information and Policies
North Star Poultry's flock is certified NPIP and Avian Influenza clean. NPIP # MT-88. We do not offer farm tours because of our farm biosecurity policy. Though we are happy to ship our birds by USPS or other arranged transport, we do not deliver or meet off farm for pick up.
American Poultry Association Standard-Bred Bourbon Red Turkeys are also available from Canyon Creek Poultry. We can combine orders, though you will be billed separately from North Star Poultry and Canyon Creek Poultry.
Payment Information: We accept PayPal, check, or money order (or cash if you are close enough to drop it off at the farm). Make checks or money orders out to North Star Poultry. To finalize SHIPPED orders, full payment is required at the time of the order. To finalize farm PICKED UP orders, a 1/2 deposit is required at the time of order, with the final 1/2 due upon pick up. Payments are nonrefundable, unless for some reason we are unable to fill your order, in which case whatever part of your order which was not filled (whether full or part) will be refunded. Deposits must be used within 18 months of placement, unless otherwise agreed to by the buyer and seller or unless the seller is unable to fill the reservation before the expiration of that time. Any offers of refund or replacement expire 18 months after first offered by the seller. Note: We reserve the right to refuse PayPal or checks, no questions asked.
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who: 1) We feel will not provide a good environment or proper care for animals. 2) Is unreasonable, threatening, debasing, harassing, argumentative, malicious, behaves suspiciously, is dishonest, has a track record of excessive vacillation, or tries to circumvent North Star Poultry's sales policies and guarantees. 3) Will not provide us with information we request for the purpose of sale and/or shipping. 4) Will not pay.

Chick Availability
We routinely hatch chicks weekly January-May, and periodically through the fall. At other times chicks are often available by special order. Chicks are available for pick up at our farm, or they may be shipped within 24 hours of hatch, Monday-Wednesday.
Juvenile/Adult Availability

Adult and juvenile chickens are available summer through fall. They are listed as they become available. We do not take preorders for adult and juvenile birds due the tentativeness of when they will be available. When they become available, juvenile/adult birds are sold first come, first serve. They must be picked up at our farm in Western Montana. We do not ship juvenile or adult poultry.

If the weather is unusually cold, we will ship no fewer than 20-25 chicks. We reserve the right to cancel a shipment if the weather is dangerous for chicks in shipment (overly cold or hot, hurricanes, etc.). In cold weather a small additional fee may apply for providing heat packs with the chicks. Unless otherwise noted, there is no minimum order for juvenile and adult birds.

NOTE: We do not recommend using this alternative shipping method right now unless you are located in Montana in a town near to us, because - since covid - Priority Mail has not been reliable enough to ship chicks long distances. Live chicks can be shipped via USPS Priority Mail, which is less expensive than Priority Mail Express. Please contact for current rates. Priority Mail is only available to locations where the USPS offers 2-Day Priority Mail shipments. Because the USPS does not guarantee that Priority Mail shipments will arrive within two days (whereas Priority Mail Express is guaranteed), we do not guarantee that chicks shipped via Priority Mail will arrive alive or undamaged.

1. Chicks are graded for physical deformities prior to sale/shipment, and all chicks are guaranteed free of visually detectable deformities at the time of sale/shipment. However, we are not responsible for any issues that become apparent or develop after sale/shipment and that we could not visually detect before sale/shipment. In cases where this guarantee applies, you must provide photographic evidence of the problem within 3 months of the date of pick up/arrival. Refunds will only be provided for the number of chicks over and above the number of extra chicks included free of charge in the shipment/sale, and will at no time exceed the original purchase price. We do not guarantee color or conformational traits.
2. Live birds shipped via USPS Priority Mail Express are guaranteed to arrive alive and without permanent damage. Any deaths or permanent damages must be reported with clear photographic evidence (including dead/damaged birds and box with shipping labeling) within 24 hours of arrival to receive a refund. The guarantee only applies if 1., the chicks are held for pick up and picked up at a Post Office (versus delivered directly to the customer's residence, etc., which is more stressful for the chicks), unless hold for pick up is unavailable in the customer's area, and 2., if the chicks are picked up on the same business day that they arrive at the destination Post Office. In the case of deaths/damages, you must retain all shipping labels and materials until notified otherwise. Live birds shipped via USPS Priority Mail are not guaranteed to arrive alive or undamaged except to area codes beginning in 598.

Hatching Eggs
NOTE: Please be forewarned that due to the unusually high number of packages in circulation and the various problems stemming from the events of 2020, we sometimes see delays with Priority Mail packages arriving (Priority Mail Express is more reliable, but rather expensive for shipping eggs). This can result in unviability of the eggs. Note that we do not guarantee anything regarding the viability of hatching eggs per our guarantees (see below), and will issue no refunds or replacements for inviable or damaged eggs. We do all we can on our end for a good outcome by shipping fresh eggs, packaging them well, and mailing them early in the week, but, ultimately, purchasing hatching eggs is entirely the buyer's risk. If you decide to purchase hatching eggs, we recommend scheduling your shipment for a week you will be available to collect the eggs from the USPS at any time they arrive, as they may arrive later than expected. If at all possible, we also recommend having the eggs held for pick up at the Post Office to minimize the jarring experienced on a postal route.

We do not guarantee that shipped eggs will arrive undamaged or viable, as we cannot control the postal service's handling during shipping. We do not guarantee that the eggs will arrive on time or on the date expected; however, if you ship via USPS Priority Mail Express, the USPS does guarantee the arrival time and will issue a refund for the postage if the shipment arrives outside of that time frame--we are happy to help customers collect the refund in these circumstances. No refunds or replacements will be issued for damaged/inviable hatching eggs. We are happy to help customers collect a refund from the USPS in circumstances where a problem is clearly the USPS's responsibility (a lost shipment, or the exterior of a package so seriously damaged that it obviously caused the damage to the eggs inside--we must have photos of box, contents, and shipping label in this case, and the customer must not discard the box or contents until notified that they are no longer needed).
