Photos for Chicks!
Send us a photo, and we'll give you a chick! North Star Poultry is looking for quality photos of the breeds and varieties we raise. If we accept your photo for use on our website and our advertising, you will receive a free female Star chick (or equivalent credit if you prefer another breed) per photo we use, as well as being credited as the photographer. The photo can be of a chick or adult, but it must be of a chicken purchased directly from North Star Poultry.
* The chick credit must be used in 2023. Does not include shipping, if required.
Suggestions for taking photos for best success:
- At this time, we need photos of Rhode Island Reds, North Stars, Blue Stars, Rose-Comb Black Stars, or Sunset Stars.
- Avoid photos of adolescent birds--they tend to look gawky. Cute little chicks and mature adults in good feather condition are best.
- Strong sunlight or deep shade both often result in poor photos.
- Unless you are taking photos of a flock or a scenic photo, get close enough to the bird that it fills most of the photo without cutting off any portion of the bird.
- If you send photos of birds winning prizes, please include the name of the fair or event where show took place, as well as the names of the photographer, the bird's owner, and the person showing the bird, if they are different people.
- If you take photos of Rhode Island Reds, remember that Rhode Island Reds are long-bodied, brick-shaped birds. Try to capture the bird in flattering positions that emphasize these characteristics.
